“There are many different kinds of learning on this path. Some learning has to be done on the earth, some in the sea, some in the air, some in the sky. Other learning must be done within the body of man.

I too had to learn all this myself. I will tell you of certain experiences in my life.

First I had to learn about the ether, the sky, the section above the head. Ether can conceal the self.

There are many clouds, many colors, many hues, many suns, moons, stars, thunder and lightening, rain, gales, and storms overhead. All that is above the mind is like ether. So much exists beyond the mind; there are four hundred trillion, ten thousand different sections.

Energies, cells, viruses, spirits, saktis, illusion, darkness, torpor - whatever is beyond the control of the mind is like the ether or sky. But once you control these energies with wisdom, they become like the earth. Once you can control the thoughts of the mind, you are treading on earth.

If we can control what is above us and bring it under our feet, then we can learn.

Next I went to the jungle. Some people go to live in caves, some go to the Himalayan mountains or to other isolated places.

I was told that if I went to such a place I could meditate in peace.

"Is that so?" I said. "I must go and see."

And so I went to the jungle. There I found snakes, insects, flowers, jungle fowl, and all sorts of animals. I discovered that all the sections in the world are even more prevalent in the jungle. All around me there were lions, tigers, wild horses, pigs, foxes, and dogs.

They ran about, hunted for food, and slept. Some animals came out in the night, some in the daytime. Some animals caught and ate each other. Some ran in fear of the others. This is what I saw in the jungle.

I lived there among the animals. I lived in the caves where they lived. I roamed the way they roamed, and I climbed the trees they climbed. Without any separation I drank beside them from the ponds. I mingled with them and studied their qualities, actions, feeling, intellect, and awareness.

I learned from each creation. I found that the jungle was not a place of peace in which to meditate. I learned that the animals behave in the jungle just like people behave in the world.

Animals live in caves; man sits in caves. Animals go out in search of food; man goes out and takes whatever he sees. Animals have not discovered anything about man, nor has man discovered anything about himself.

How can one who has not discovered what is within man meditate? In this way I studied the beings in the jungle, and then I left.

Next I studied the creatures of the ocean. They too were behaving in the same way.

I finished that lesson and began to study birds. They were also the same. Some ate fruit, some ate worms, some ate insects, some killed one another.

One variety ate dead animals, another ate lives ones. They built nests, laid eggs, and hatched them. I watched and studied all their qualities and actions.

Then I came to the city and studied the animals there. I discovered that human animals were behaving just like other creatures. Whatever qualities these other being had, man also had.

What the monkey had, man had. What the venomous snake had, man had. The human animal was not a wonder. He did not have anything different from the animals.

At this point I was told,

"There is a house that was built and given to you. That house is your body."

I said.

"But this body is only eight spans. How can I live here?"

Then He told me,

"Even an ant's body is eight spans of its own hand. The body is a school.

“It is your house, your heaven, your hell, and my Kingdom. Your freedom is there, yet your slavery is also there. Both your joys and your sorrows are there".

"Man-animal” and “Man-God” are both there".

"All this learning is within this eight-span house of your body. If you become an insan, a true man, you will understand this. You are My Secret. I am a Mystery."

According to His words, I started to learn about the cage of my body. Within this eight-span body, I set out to discover what should be discarded and what should be taken in.

I was told,

"Within this eight-span house, half a span is your sorrow, half a span is your torpor, and one span is the fire of hell. If you can understand and discard these two spans, then you are left with six."

"Once you have understood all that is within the remaining six spans of your body, you can become a man with six levels of wisdom, capable of analyzing and discovering the secrets of the eighteen thousand universes."

"Then you will understand that one handful of earth which is your heart. If you do not reach this understanding, you could become a worm in hell with only one level of wisdom, or you could become a jinn, a fairy, a ghost, or a demon. You could become a ruhani, an elemental spirit."

"However, if you understand yourself, then you can become a true human being. You can become My messenger, you can become My light, you can merge with Me and we can live together."

These were His words.

We have to discover what is hidden within this body. This is what we must learn from a wise man of purity. We must learn this from a pure father who has a pure heart. To do this, your unity and faith must be strong.

Children, you must have purity of heart to learn from the purity of the father. The secret of God, our Father who is purity, must be learned with pure love, pure faith, pure compassion, pure unity, and a pure life.

This is the only way we can learn and understand that purity, that meditation, that prayer, and that learning.

If each one of you establishes and understands this state within, then the connection between you and your Father can easily be established.

You can conduct your lives with ease and understand all you need to know. You can understand the life in which wisdom, good deeds, our Father, and the Children live together.

When love, wisdom, and unity are all together, that is the heaven of gnanam. The Children of the pure Father will live in the paradise of gnanam. That is firdaus, our Father's pure kingdom. We will be given the radiant kingdom of our Father as our prize.

You must understand this pure place. When you can establish this within yourself and demonstrate proof of its existence, then your Father's kingdom of wisdom, love, compassion, peace, and iman becomes yours.

These are some of the things I have learned through experience. My love you. Think about this. May Allah help you. Amin.

1. “What” Is “The World”?

Disciple:

O Guru Swami, what is the world? Explain it to me.

Guru:

(“The Beginning” of “The Short Excerpt”)

O my eyes, the world is folly. It is a woman called Desire. That is the earth world.

Everything appearing on earth is maya (illusion). Woman are the four religions. Religious scriptures are the attachments of all creations. Gold is a creator of mischief.

There are seventy three groups mixed with all human lives, entering the nerve, the skin, and the flesh, as four kinds of destructive woman.

Disciple:

Swami, Master Guru, teach me in detail the four kinds of woman. There is a great desire ceaselessly springing forth in me to marry one of these woman.

Guru:

O dear son, what is referred to as the four religions are divided into several races and religions. Race denotes an evil character. Religion is arrogance. These two have divided themselves into four faiths. They appear as four woman.

The first is Manaiyal (the one who looks after the home).

The second is Manaiyaddi (the one who shakes up the home).

The third is Thadiyaddi (the one who causes the stick to be brandished).

The fourth is Thandaddi (the one who causes the club to be brandished).

2. “The First Type” of “Wife/Woman” - The Earth Sign

Disciple:

O Guru Swami, which is these is good?

Guru:

Listen. I shall tell you. You ask me which is good and which is evil.

Earth, Fire, Air, and Water intermingled to form the shape of a ball.

The earth is the first sign, Manaiyal (the one who looks after the home).

She has the characteristics of the earth. She is the best among these four types of woman.

Disciple:

What are her actions?

Guru:

Dear son, listen to her work.

Forgetful of the world,

Absorbing the truth within her,

Discerning clearly good from evil,

Always on the good path.

Singing without words,

The praise of the unsearchable thing,

Tasting the clear unquenchable nectar,

Unhesitatingly absorbing (it) within her heart.

Making compassion her home each day,

Keeping noble deeds as her life,

Lighting the lamp of chastity,

Performing many a duty.

Fixing up untold images with clarity,

Accepting the Guru and his grace as divine,

Placing her body, wealth, and life

As a slave at the feet of her husband.

Conscious of her three duties,

Of noble deeds, wealth, and offer of bliss,

She shines praising her husband's feet.

O dear son, her actions, just as the earth, are full of patience and peace. She accepts those who praise and those who abuse, displaying her tolerance to all living things with virtuous conduct.

Like the earth, she tolerates those who excrete and those who urinate on it, both men and cattle. She observes the peculiarities of their bodies, their bodily features and signs and endures them.

She is Manaiyal (the one who looks after the home). She does not allow her heart to meander here and there. She protects her chastity and casts her starry modest eyes at the feet of her husband, wishing that no harm should befall him - her deity.

She prays with a melting heart and always seeks protection for him. She is

Manaiyal, possessing the character of the earth. She destroys maya, banishes her mental desires, and establishes compassionate kindness.

She goes to bed late and rises earlier. She bathes, polishes the floor, washes her body, and purifies her heart. She destroys deceit. She opens her eyes and rubs them on the feet of her husband.

She stands with folded arms and lights the lamp of chastity. She gets her husband to open his eyes in that light.

She is the first type of wife, my son. Did you listen, my son, gem of my eyes?

3. “The Second Type” of “Wife/Woman” - The Fire Sign

The second type of wife is Manaiyaddi (the one who shakes up the home).

She is the sign of fire and is evil- charactered.

She cannot discriminate between right and wrong.

She has no awareness of excreta and urine.

She burns each and everything within sight and reduces them into ash. She melts the rock, burns intelligence, breaks the mind, agitates the heart, burns character, brings turmoil into the family, tortures the analytical wisdom, and torches the earth.

She makes it appear as truth all the ideas that enter into her mind, whether true or false. Full of self-aggrandizement, she questions covertly,

"Who is better than I?

This is the type of wife of the fire sign called Manaiyaddi. She behaves in various other ways to hurt the feelings of her husband. She torments him and eventually destroys him. She has yet more characteristics.

It is this type of many charactered wife who is called Manaiyaddi.

Do you here my dear disciple, gem of my eyes?

4. “The Third Type” of “Wife/Woman” - The Air Sign

The third type of wife is Thadiyaddi (the one who causes the stick to be brandished).

She has the character of the air. She flies like the wind.

She winks the eyes, enters all possible places, ruins the heart, causes the breath to be withheld, holds the urine, blocks the urinary passage, causes the abdomen to distend, numbs the brain, breaks the mountain, destroys the forest, makes the sea rise, breaks the house, dashes the ships, hurts the mind, diminishes judgment, stirs up the world, tests the strength, accumulates sins, and distances God.

She alters fate, destroys destiny, misleads man, breaks his head and puts him to death.

This is done by the wife with the air sign called Thadiyaddi. She looks wherever she wants to look, goes wherever she wants to go, winks whenever she wants to wink, walks whenever she wants to walk, lies down whenever she wants to lie, controls whom she can control, ruins whatever she can ruin, aims wherever she can aim, sleeps wherever she can sleep, laughs whenever she can laugh, hides wherever she can hide, wanders wherever she can wander, snatches whatever she can snatch, and sends her husband's life to the other world.

So does, Thadiyaddi, the wife with the Air sign. There are yet many more traits in this third type of wife .

5. “The Fourth Type” of “Wife/Woman” - The Water Sign

The fourth type of wife of the Water sign called Thandaddi (the one who causes the club to be brandished) runs over the hills and lies on valleys.

She is bound where she should be bounded, lies where she should lie, runs where she should run, rolls where she should roll, scatters where she should scatter, controls herself where she should be controlled, gets infested with worms where she should be infested, gives an offensive odor from where such odor should emanate, leaps where she should leap, and goes wherever she has to go.

This is the wife of the fourth type, of the Water sign called

Thandaddi.

Did you see the mischief of these types of wives, my son, gem of my eyes?

Disciple:

O Guru, is there any benefit in researching into the characteristics of each type of these wives, Swami?

Guru:

Yes, there is. I shall tell you one more thing. Please listen.

There are names depending on the circumstances for these four types of wives. When men without wounds, itch, or boils take one of these woman, itch or boils appear on them with oozing ulcers.

For a man, born as human, living as human, residing as human, the first type (of wife) I mentioned earlier called the graceful Manaiyal is the real marriage. Realize this well.

The virtuous wife performs virtuous deeds, not deviating from the virtue of home life.

(However), if this virtuous wife who loves the lives of others as her own is herself a big burden to a man, should the rest be told?

Son, know this with a little measure of caution and reason.

Further, if this same man were to marry a woman one, two, three and four times by mutual liking between man and woman, he loses his wisdom, blinds his eye, loses his discretion, emaciates his body, suffers and creates injury to his heart.

As a cure for that hurt he takes another wife. This becomes a second burden. A third wife is a caustic remedy for his wounded heart, and a fourth wife satisfies his ego.

This common factor exists for both man and woman. Will this factor bring happiness? No, it is very rare indeed!

Nevertheless, having ourselves caused injury to our hearts, and as a cure for it, we use caustic dressing material, and a load of caustic medicine for the wound, will we die or survive? Contemplate on this.

Disciple:

All right, Swami, I understand. People refer to "Illaram" and "Thuvawaram" (married life and the life of the recluse). Which of these is desirable?

Guru:

Listen dear. As I said earlier, God is love.

If one were to get a Manaiyal with a melting heart, who discards wealth and the pleasures of worldly life, but reveres the feet of her husband, who is absorbed in the One and Only Almighty Lord, the God without form, then in such an instance, domestic life is an ocean of bliss.

Nevertheless, this opportunity is very, very, very rare indeed! Be what it may, life itself is burdensome.

Disciple:

Swami, show us a way to improve ourselves while living in the world.

Guru:

Dear One. There are two ways.

If you are to live in the world, there is a need for a woman.

If you are to reach the Lord, (to leave here, not live here), there is a need for a guru (Shaikh).

A guru is very, very hard to find.

Disciple:

Swami, you mentioned guru.

How is such a guru to be recognized?

How is he to be searched for?

How are we to associate with him?

Teach it to me in detail.

Guru:

Listen child.

Isn't this the world? In it there are many movements.

To be born a man, one has to perform several crores of meritorious deeds.

To be born a man among men, one has to perform meritorious deeds many times over.

Among them, to be human among humans, one has to practice much more severe religious austerities.

Disciple:

Swami, how can one perform meditation before birth?

It is said that meritorious acts are performed before birth.

If that were so, how can one perform meditation before birth?

In that event, is the world a happy place or a sorrowful one?

Guru:

Oh is that what you are asking?

I shall tell you. It is true that to be born in this world is great.

1. The Motionless All-Pervading One is the Omnipresent Silent One.

2. The world is a hypnotic fascination.

3. The mind is agitation.

4. The words of the gnostic guru are a driving force.

These four are divided into sixteen divisions.

I shall give you the meaning of these sixteen divisions later on (in

“Chapter 3”).

Now I shall answer your question.

Disciple:

Swami, O Guru, what is the Motionless One?

Guru:

Son, the Motionless One is one who cannot be known.

The Formless One pervades here, there, and everywhere. He has no appearance, no shape, no name, no country, no wife, no child, no friend, no connections, no end, no temples, no ponds, no religion, no people, no hands, no legs, no mouth, no head, and no abode of his own.

He is far removed from human knowledge and even beyond that. He is the Motionless Ultimate One. Do you understand, Son?

Disciple:

How is this Ultimate One to be reached?

How can such a One who is formless, elusive, ruling here, there, and everywhere, protect us?

How will He give and take?

He has no hands, no legs, and no mouth.

He will therefore be unable to speak.

How can we discover such a God?

Guru:

Son, do you understand what I have been saying?

You question me about His want of a mouth and His lack of hands, do you not?

Let me tell you about a particle of a particle of the size of dust of His greatness.

Listen.

Gracefully He appears as the ripened fruit, without flowering or bud.

He protects, not being a mother, but akin to seventy mothers.

He speaks without a mouth and enters the mind with grace.

He protects, questioning and listening to thy answers without an ear.

He alone dwells in all of us without a mother.

He helps those who employ truth without insincerity.

He is the tongueless Lord who speaks through our hidden tongue.

Without a scepter, He is the Guru Lord who rules everywhere as the One Umbrella.

Deathless, He exists everywhere, evergiving and never abandoning us.

A King without a palace, He is the One who gives clarity.

As the Resplendent Bright Flame (the Triple Flame), within and without,

With expectations of benefit from none,

As the Lord of those in seclusion and in distress,

In the middle of the night or during the day,

Without causing pain to those who live in harmless surrender,

To those maidens with hearts of kindness,

To the great ascetics, to virtuous men and pure woman,

He appears gracefully as the wick of the Lamp of Faultless Guru Wisdom.

With perpetual grace,

He is the Lord who vibrates within Love and Compassion.

If thou art aware of the words of such a Lord,

And submit to the advice of the Wise Guru,

Then, what is distress?

What is poverty?

Is there any parallel to this?

Know this, O my son,

So seek thou the right Guru.

I have said so, my son.

He will certainly help thee.

God is the Motionless One.

He is Allah.

Have you understood this, my son, gem of my eyes?
